Petty Officer 1st Class arm badge
Embroidered badge belonging to a Petty Officer 1st Class of 'HMS Eurydice' 1843. Cloth embroidered in navy wool with two stripes, crossed anchors and a crown. With an associated label inscribed: 'Ist Class Petty Officer's badge H.M.S. Eurydice. Brought up by Diver off the Isle of Wight.' HMS 'Eurydice' 1843, was a training ship which sank in a squall off the Isle of Wight on 24 March 1878. Only two of her crew of 319 were saved. The wreck was salvaged but due to its poor condition had to be broken up.
