H.M.S. 'Thetis' keel fragment
Part of the keel of the frigate H.M.S. 'Thetis' which was wrecked off Cape Frio, Brazil in 1830. A worm eaten block of wood with a silver plaque attached. The plaque is inscribed: 'His Majesty King William the Fourth is humbly entreated graciously to accept the last fragment of the keel of his frigate the Thetis which relic was recovered in the diving bell near Cape Frio at the depth of eight fathoms by the hand of his Majesty's faithful servant and subject Frederick Fitzgerald de Roos 1833.'
