Sphinx fragment
Fragment from the Sphinx. A small piece of granite with the painted reference number: No 127 Div. D CLASS 13'. A printed paper label reads: '2'. Label: 'Piece of the Sphinx supposed to be 3500 years old. Brought to England in HMS 'TALAVERA' in 1839. Exposed to the fire which destroyed the ship in 1840.'
