Lead tobacco box and lid
A decorated tobacco box made of lead presented to Captain Tyte by Admiral Lord Nelson in 1805. A cross hatching pattern can be seen on the sides of the tobacco box as well as a faded drawing of a coffee pot and two goblets. The handle on the lid is a carved persons head, which is so worn the original design is virtually unrecognisable. The inside of the lid is painted red but the vast majority of the paint has fallen away. There the remains of gold coloured paint on both the lid and pot. Inside the box is a hard written but torn letter dated 1909 to Miss Turner.
