Seal of the town of Kiel, 13th century. It depicts a thirteenth-century sailing vessel, the earliest North European illustration of sailing close hauled. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM : CIVIVM : KILENSIVM'. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
