Obverse of the first seal of the town of Calais, 1228. Each end of the hull bears a fork or 'mike,' used for stowing loose gear such as coils of rope, oars, spears and the anchor. Inscription: 'S' : TOTIVS : VILLE : DE : CAL(AIS)'. Two casts mounted on a cardboard backboard with a label.
