First seal of the town of Southampton, early 13th century. On the sea, a single-masted ship under sail. It has a steering oar and a stern castle. Two crosses on the sail. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM . VILLE . SVTHAMTONIE'. The cast mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
