Hastings, common seal, early 14th century. Two early fourteenth century ships in action. An early illustration of reef-bands carrying reef points. The vessels have short planking. One ship carries a bow banner of the Barons of the Cinque Ports and a stern banner with the lions of England. She also flies a three tailed pennon at the masthead. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM : COMMVNE BARONVM : DE HASTINGGIS'. The cast is painted red and mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
