Obverse of the 2nd seal of the town of Southampton, early 14th century. On the sea, a single-masted ship, mainsail furled, a rudder, crow's nest and castles in the bow and stern. In the stern castle two trumpeters. In the field a crescent and two stars. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM :: COMVNITATIS : SVTHAMTONE::' The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
