Newport (Isle of Wight) first common seal, early 15th century. On the sea, a single-masted ship with mainsail, a flag with the cross of St George and streamers, embattled forecastle, small flag and cross at the stern.
Inscription: 'SIGILLUM : COMUNE : VILLE : DE : NEUPORT : IN : INSULA : DE : WIGHT'. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
