Sub-Admiralty of England, 15th century seal

The 15th century seal of the Sub-Admiralty of England. It depicts a fifteenth century sailing vessel with ropes encircling the planking just under the fore-stage to strengthen the hull. The Royal Standard is displayed in the bow of the ship. The sail bears the lions of England; a banner in the stern displays a hart sejant, gorged and chained; at the mast-head is a pennon bearing St George's Cross. Inscription: 'SIGILLUM : OFFICII : SUBADMIRALLITATIS : ANGLIE'. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
