Thomas Beaufort, seal of office, 1418-26. Inscription: 'S' . THOME : DUC : EXON : COMIT : DORS : ADMIRALLI : ANGL' . ACQ ET :: HIB'N'. It depicts the larger seal of the Admiral and shows an early fifteenth century sailing vessel with stem binding of ropes round the planking under the fore-stage and rubbing pieces (fenders) on the hull. St George's flag is shown as a banner in the bow and a pennon on the mast-head. The Royal arms are placed on the sail and on a banner in the stern. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
