Guild of Merchant Adventurers, York, circa 1382
Plaster seal cast of the Guild of Merchant Adventurers, York, circa 1382. It depicts the Holy Trinity between the hulls of two ships. Legend: 'SIGILLUM : COMUNITATIS : MERCOTOR : CIVITATIS : EOBORACI'. The matrix was found in the ruins of Shap Abbey in 1840. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
