Seal of the Norwich & Lowestoft Navigation Company, circa 1826
Seal of the Norwich & Lowestoft Navigation Company. A brig sails to the left, off a quay and turreted tower. In the background Norwich Castle and Cathedral. Inscription: 'THE COMPANY OF PROPRIATORS OF THE NORWICH & LOWESTOFT NAVIGATION'. The company was founded to provide an alternative route from Norwich to the sea at Lowestoft (there was already one via Great Yarmouth but it was shallow at Breydon Water). The work was completed in 1833. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
