Cast of a medallion of Commodus, 187 AD. Two casts obverse and reverse. Obverse: A portrait of the emperor, Commodus. Inscription: 'M COMMODVS ANTONINVS PIVS FELIX AVG BRIT'. Reverse: A merchant vessel under mainsail and topsail. Inscription: 'PM (TR P XII) IMP VIII COS V (P P)', 'PROV AVG'. The medallion stresses the emperor's care for the grain supply of Rome. The casts are mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
