Medallion of Commodus, 180-92 AD

Cast of a medallion of Commodus, 180-92 AD. Two casts obverse and reverse. Obverse: A portrait of the emperor, Commodus. Reverse: A galley, possibly an escort ship of the Alexandrine grain fleet. The medallion may commemorate the assiduity of the emperor in maintaining food supplies during the famine of 189 AD. The casts are mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
