Winchelsea, 2nd seal of the corporation, early 1th century

Winchelsea, 2nd seal of the corporation, early 14th century. It depicts an early fourteenth century sailing vessel with a quarter rudder slung on the starboard side. In the bow two men are hauling on the anchor cable which runs aft to a windlass worked by two other men. This is the earliest representation of a windlass on a seal. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM : BARONVM : DOMINI : REGIS : ANGLIE : DE : WINCHELLESE'. On a felt covered hardboard backboard with a label. SEC0489-498 mounted together.
