John Holland, seal of office, 1435-42. The first seal of John Holland as Admiral of England, Ireland and Aquitaine. It depicts a fifteenth century sailing vessel. The flag of St George is displayed in the bow and stern of the ship. An admiral's lantern is hung at the fighting top. The sail of the ship bears the arms of the Holland family, England, and a bordure of France. Inscription: 'S' IOHIS : COMT' HUTYGDON DNI DE JVORY ETC ADMIRALLI : ANGLIE : HIBNIE ET ACQUITANE'. On a felt covered hardboard backboard with a label. SEC0489-498 mounted together.
