Prize medal
Prize medal. It depicts a vase. Legend: 'ST GEORGE'S CHALLENGE VASE'. The full title was 'The St George's Rifles Challenge Vase' and it is shown in a woodcut in the 'Illustrated London News' for 29 June 1862, with an accompanying article. It was a marksmanship trophy 'presented by Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. C.H. Lindsay and the members of the St George's Rifles to the volunteers of Great Britain. It is still annually competed for at Bisley. [PvdM 4/24]
