Badge of the Sargeant-at-Mace, 16th century. Depicting a sailing vessel and fish. A very conventional representation of a man-of-war of the period based on the shield of arms of the Town. The bowsprit and beak-head are shown fancifully united into a single spar in the bow. Painted red.
