Medal cast

Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Half-length figure of Vernon, full face, baton in left hand, right on hip, a curved tree to the left. A fort with asteeple to the right inscribed: 'A.VIEW OF.FORT CHAGRE' below it a ship. Legend: 'VICE AD:RL OF THE BLEW, & COM : DER . IN CHIEF OF ALL HIS . MAI : SHIPS IN THE WEST INDIES'. Exergue: 'THE HONLE. EDWARD VERNON ESQ'. Reverse: A view of the port. Six ships are placed two and four. Four small vessels are inside harbour. Legend: 'PORTO BELLO.TAKEN BY ADMIRAL VERNON . WITH SIX MEN OF WAR ONLY . NOV. 22. ANNO DOM.1739'.
