Medal cast

Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Bust of King William III in wig, mantled (right). Similar to MEC0138, but more of the bust showing, wig shorter and mantle different. Legend: 'GVLIELMVS . III . D . G . MAG . BRITT . FR . ET . HIB . REX . F . G'. Reverse: Naval action, French ships in flames, one blowing up; in the foreground a lion and a unicorn wresting a trident from a cock. Ships more in distance and animals larger than in MEC0138. Legend: 'IMPERIVM . PELAGI . NOBIS' (To us belongs the empire of the sea). Exergue: 'INCENSA . GALL[ORUM] . CLASSE ANG[LI] . ET . BAT[AVI] . VICTORES MDCXCII' (The French fleet burnt; the English and Dutch victorious 1692).
