Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Head of Louis XIV. Legend: 'LVDOVICVS MAGNVS * REX'. Reverse: Louis XIV, holding a broken trident, his crown falling from his head, is mounted upon a snail in the sea. Legend: 'EXTOLERAT . CORNUA . SED . PERIIT . SALO'. (He raised his horns but he perished in the sea). Exergue: 'MDCXCII'.
