Medal cast
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a medal commemorating Morland's steam engine, 1685. Obverse: On the sea a cylindrical vessel with a curved top,on a square wooden base. Steam issues from the top, in the side, a long pipe or arm. A sailing vessel shown in the background. Legend: 'GRATA : SVPER : VENIET'. Reverse: Ornamental fountain, two ships behind. 'QVAE : NON : SPERABITVR : VNDA'. (The water will be the more welcome the less it is expected). Exergue: '1685'.
