Medal cast
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Bust of Prince William of Orange in wig, draped armour and cravat (three-quarter right), supporters holding a laurel wreath over his head, an inscribed tablet below. 'DAT HY OP DE GOLVEN TRIUMPHERE 1688' (May he triumph over the waves). Legend: 'DIT 'S PRINS WILLEM D' III WIENS OORLOGHS RAET EN DAET D'EERSTE NIET BESWYCKT MAER VEEL EER T'BOVEN GAET*' (This is Prince William III who, by his prudence and valour in war, is not inferior but even surpasses the First). Reverse: The fleet about to sail, townsfolk grouped ashore on a pier, Fame with trumpets flying above. Legend (incuse): 'T VERTRECK VAN SYN HOOGHEYT DEN HEER PRINS VAN ORANJE UYT HELLEVOETSLUYS NA T KONINCKRYCK BRITTANJE. AO. 1688' (The departure of His Highness the Prince of Orange from Helvoetsluys for the kingdom of Britain).
