French jeton, 1639
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a French jeton, 1639. Obverse: Richelieu's arms, surmounted by cardinal's hat over coronet, surrounded by the collars of the king's orders, placed on two crossed anchors, the whole on a ermine mantel. Below, an engagement between a French and Spanish galley. Legend: 'FELICITER VNDIS'. Reverse: A ship in flames. Legend: 'TERRET DVM TORRET' (terrifies while it scorches). Exergue: '1639'. Reverse cracked.
