Medal cast

Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Bust of Louis XIV, facing left, laureate, wearibng a cloak over armour. Legend 'LVDOVICVS . MAGNVS . REX . CHRISTANISSIMVS.' Reverse: Victory flying towards Messina, holding a wreath in her left hand and a sheaf of corn in her right. 'ALIMENTA * MESSANAE (the revictualling of Messina). Exergue: 'HISPAN AD FRETUM SICVL . DEVICTIS . M . DC . LXXV.' (the defeat of the Spaniards in the Straits of Sicily, 1675).
