Portrait of William Samual Brown (later changed his surname to Grieve)
A photographic daguerreotype sixth plate size miniature. A portrait believed to be of William Samuel Brown, as a Mate in the Royal Navy. He is seated and wearing a uniform with his cap held by his left hand resting in his lap. His right arm is resting on a floral cloth-covered table. The uniform consists of a dark jacket and neck cloth, and pale trousers, shirt and waistcoat.
There is a gold-coloured mount with rows of beading around the aperture. The frame is metal and has a twisting, textured pattern. The miniature is in a case that is covered in a dark red leather with a raised floral design and the inside is lined with red velvet with an embossed, floral pattern in the lid. Around in the internal edge of the case is a gold pattern.
