Portrait Ambrotype of Joseph Edwin Moore
A photographic ambrotype (also known as wet collodion positive) quarter plate. A full length photograph of Joseph Edwin Moore standing in front of a brick building with a window and garden trellis against the wall. The sitter is wearing pale trousers and dark belt, and a sailor's shirt with its wide collar and a black necktie. Moore is believed to have run away to sea aged 13 and later joined the Royal Navy, obtaining the rank of Petty Officer.
Note that this photograph may be in reverse. When compared to ZBA7508, the distinctive hair style has the parting on the sitter's right, whereas this photograph has it on his left.
