Portait of an unidentified naval officer
A photographic quarter plate daguerreotype. A half-length portrait of an unidentified naval officer, possibly a Mate as he is not wearing any epaulettes, seated on a chair draped with a patterned cloth. His right arm is resting on the arm of the chair. The sitter is depicted in uniform with his jacket buttoned and a soft peaked cap in his lap. The sitter wears a beard.
The reverse of the frame (ZBA7491.1) has the top part of a label that says 'G. Renard. Photographishes Institute...'
The envelope it has been housed in states 'Naish Daguerreotype: image.' However, it is unclear if this is the donor (the Museum had a staff member George Naish) or the sitter.
