Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Two cherubs hold up a winged hour glass and a cloth inscribed: 'ter Gerdaachtenisse Van D . E . Manhaften Hr IOOST VERSCHVER Capiteijn ordinaris Voort.Coelegie Van d' Edelmogende Heren ter Admiraliteijt jn Amsterdam. QUO FATA TRAHUNT Verschuer, die Stael, nach, vuer der Vijanden ontsagh gewoon zijn Lijf ten dieft Van 't Vaderland te wagen daer Sweed, en Brit, en Turck getuijgenis of dragen sturs Roern Rijk guu den Held dat hij zoo Rusten magh'. (To the memory of the courageous Sir Joost Verschuer, Captain ordinary member of the College of the Noble Lords of the Admiralty at Amsterdam. 'Whither the fates lead us.' Verschuer, who feared neither the enemy's iron nor his fire, accustomed to risk his life in the service of his country, of which Swede, Briton and Turk bear witness, died gloriously: may he thus repose).
