Medal cast
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: A laureated skull with a winged hour glass above. Inscribed on a cartouche below, flanked by weeping cherubs: 'Josias Kryger obit den 9 September 1673'. Reverse: Cupids with inverted torches, skeleton with a torch and scythe. They hold a shield on which is inscribed: 'Wann eer ten tweedemaal foor hollants Scheepsme...twee groote Kownekkvlote zyn int de zee geschoten wiert Brakels Liutenent gewont maar onvermoite een Kryger in zyn Leven op't beddviin eergebleven G Norel'. (When for a second time, two great kingdoms contended at sea, Brakel's lieutenant was wounded. In life he was a man of war, he died on the bed of honour.)
