Medal cast
Two casts obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Shield, four flags and hat on pole. Shield inscribed: 'DE BRITTEN EN RUSSEN TE KALANS-OOG GELAND 27 AUG. 18 SEPT.1799' (The British and Russians landed at Kalans-oog). Exergue: 'I.G.R.F.' Legend: 'DIE ZE GAF BESCHERMTZE' (He who gave it, shieldsit.). Exergue: 'TE KASTRIKUM 6 OCT 1799'. Reverse: Thunderbolts surrounded by two wreaths. Below inscription, two hands clasped, surrounded by a ring, through which are passed a laurel and a palm branch. Inscription: 'GODS wonderbaare hand! Verloste NEDERLAND Door BRUNE's kort beraaden, En der BATAVEN moed! Waar door de roov'ren stoet, Nu smeekt om lyfsgenaaden.'. Bellow on edge: 't' 5 jaar de Bat.Vryh.' (God's marvelous hand rescued the Netherlands by Brune's promptness and the Dutchmen's courage; thus the pirate's now beg for their lives).
