Medal cast
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal . Obverse: Ship in the foreground in a storm, second ship in middle distance sailing with a fair breeze towards the rising sun. Legend: ASPERA NOS TENVERE DIV. NVNC' (the boisterous skies, that long have held us, now are clear).. Reverse: Altar with burnt offering. Inscribed on the front: 'FORTVNAE REDVCI EX VOTO' (in fulfilment of a vow to Fortune for safe return). On lower step: 'MDCLXXXIX . D . XXIVN'. Legend: 'MENS PIA, MENS SVMMO VICTIMA GRATA DEO' (A faithful heart, a pleasant offering to almighty God).
