Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Bust of Duke John William of Saxe-Gotha. Legend: 'IOH : WILHELM . DVX SAX . I . C . M . A . ET W'. Reverse: A ship wrecked on a reef. Legend: 'PER TOT DESCRIMINA SALVVS.' (Saved from amongst so many dangers). Exergue: 'E NAVFRAGIO AD HOLMIAM FACTO . MDCCII VIII.APRIL.' (From the wreck near Stockholm). Exergue: 'APERIENTI BIBLIA E FLVCTIB RAPTA FORTE OBLAT . PS . CVII . 21 . 32'. Commemorates the rescue of Duke John William. As his bible was fished out of the water, it opened at 107 Psalm, vs. 21-32.
