Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Bust of von Mücke in uniform (three-quarter left). Legend: 'KAPITÄNLEUTNANT VON MÜCKE.' Signature (right) illegible. Reverse: Starboard-bow view of a brigantine under sail. Legend: 'KIELING-INSELN 9. NOVEMBER 1914 : HODEIDA 3. FEBRUAR 1915.' (Keeling Island, 9 November 1914. Hodeida, 3 February 1915.) Inscription: 'ZU EHREN EUCH UND EUCH ZUM RUHM HABT IHR GEHALTEN DEUTSCHE TREU . DER WELT GEZEIGHT WAS HELDENTUM-IHR MANNEN VON DER EMDEN II!' (To your eternal fame, Ye proved you Germans true, And showed the world what heroes are, Ye men of 'Emden Two'.) Below the Iron Cross between two oak twigs. Helmuth von Mücke was ashore at Keeling Island destroying the wireless station at the time the 'Emden' was attacked. He escaped in the brigantine to Hodeida.
