Royal Naval College award certificate
This is a certificate of award, dated 3rd October 1880, granted on behalf of Emperor Guangxu (reign 1875-1908) to an instructor of the Royal Naval College at Greenwich for his excellent services of instructing Chinese students. The name of the instructor was transliterated into two Chinese characters, namely, 'Lao Dun'. His original English name was John K. Laughton, Naval Instructor at the RN College, Greenwich at the time of the 1881 Census.
