Tobacco box base

A round box made of embossed sheet brass. Round the sides are eight panels decorated with (a) a lion (b) a drum, sword and banners (c) a naval crown, trident and steering oar with oak branches behind (d) the Union shield, a rudder and oak leaves (e) three guns, shot, a Union flag, anchor and oak branches (f) a gun and naval trophies (g) a ship's stern (h) an anchor. On the base, within a border of key pattern and beading: 'CONQUEROR AT ABOUKIR 1 AUGT 1798. COPENHAGEN 2 APRIL 1801. TRAFALGAR 21 OCTR 1805, WHERE HE GLORIOUSLY FELL.' The maker's initials: 'M & P FECIT' on the base.
