A group of people on the stern of the steamer Yorkshire (1871)
A sixth plate ambrotype (also known as wet collodion positive) mounted and framed photographic miniature. A view across to the port quarter of the iron steamer Yorkshire (1871), towards a large group of well-dressed people, many looking towards the camera. On the railing is a life ring with the words YORKSHIRE and LONDON on it. The ship is moored alongside a quay or dock, as the far side of the dock is visible off the stern.
The miniature has a patterned, gold-coloured mount with an oval aperture. The frame is made of metal and is textured. The miniature is in a case that is lined in red velvet and the outer surface is covered in a dark leather.
