Falaise (1947); Merchant vessel; Cross-channel passenger ferry

Scale: 1:48. A full hull shipbuilder's model of the Falaise (1947), a cross-channel passenger ferry. The model is decked, equipped, and rigged. The hull is painted a red/brown colour with a thin white boot topping below the waterline, and above with black and a white finish to the bulwarks. The hull is fitted with a pair of 'Denny' stabilisers amidships. The superstructure is finished mainly in white with cream decks lined with planks, whilst the aft of the bridge is a single funnel painted a creamy yellow with a black top between two masts. On deck are a number of fittings including anchor handling equipment, six lifeboats rigged on davits, a variety of wooden single and double seats which are also designed as life rafts and are similar to the Lovold patent design. The model is inscribed with "Falaise" on the port and starboard bows and "Falaise Southampton" on the stern. The model is mounted on four bronzed turned pillars on a wooden base within a wooden glazed display case.
