Mooltan (1923); Passenger/cargo vessel; Liner

Scale: 1:48. A model of TSS Mooltan (1923) made entirely in wood painted in realistic colours and with plated metal and organic material fittings. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline, black above with a narrow white stripe that runs the entire length of the hull at main deck level. Hull details include a pair of anchors stowed at the port and starboard bows, four companion ladders rigged on port and starboard sides, rows of port holes with painted glass effect details, bilge keels, and two three-bladed propellers. The upperworks and superstructure sides are painted a dull pink and all the decks are unpainted varnished wood which has been scored to resemble planking. Forecastle fittings include an anchor winch, two spare anchors, two davits, a hatch cover, and a foremast. The forward cargo deck has a hatch and two derricks. The promenade deck extends for the entire length of the ship from the cargo deck to the stern. Above it the boat deck contains a further five hatches, one forward and four aft with two double derricks forward and eight single derricks aft. There are 26 lifeboats with dull pink hulls, most with white covers, either stowed on davits or on chocks; eight of these boats are collapsible. The two funnels are painted black. All of the ventilators are copper plated. The mainmast is positioned between the two stern most hatch covers. On port and starboard bows: 'Mooltan'. On stern: 'Mooltan Belfast'. A plaque is inscribed 'The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co T.S.S. "Mooltan". Length between perpendiculars 600ft-0ins Breadth moulded 73-0 Depth keel to beam 44-0 Gross tonnage 20, 800 Net tonnage 12, 750 Built and engined by Harland and Wolff Ltd 1922'. The model is displayed on four turned pillar supports in line and is housed in its original decoratively carved mahogany display case with matching table.
