Engine model

Scale: 1:24. A working model of a paddle wheel beam engine, made in brass and steel. The cylinders, parts of the engine frame and crankshaft supports have been made in brass. The crankshaft and all other components have been made in steel. The upper surfaces of parts of the frame have been painted bright green and the paddle wheel has been painted bright red. The wheel is made up of three spoked outer rings and three inner rings set side by side between which are set nine blades. The crankshaft is supported at either end by two A-frame type supports. The model is mounted on a wooden baseboard, painted black. Two inscribed brass plaques are attached to either end of the baseboard which read "Presented to the Royal Naval College by the Earl of Minto, CCB. 1841" and "Model of marine beam Engines of 320 horses power J & S Seaward & Capel London".
