Recreation vessel; Sailing pond yacht

Scale: unknown. A contemporary full hull model of a working pond yacht or toy dating from the early 20th century. It depicts a yacht with a cutter rig, which was popular towards the end of the 19th century, the hull of which is based upon the lines of the Royal Yacht ‘Britannia’ (1893), which was sailed by King Edward VII. It is complete with a lead-ballasted keel and rudder, and a deck hatch providing access to the hull for adding ballast for finite trimming. The whole rig is collapsible and packs away in the original wooden box for transport. It was both these sailing toys and the more specially designed and rated yacht models that most of the concept and development work was done for the full-size racing yachts.
