Warship; Third rate; 64 guns

Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of a 64-gun two-decker ship of the line (circa 1775), built plank on frame in the Navy Board style. The model is partially decked, equipped and was re-rigged in the 1930s on the original masts and spars. It is also mounted on its original baseboard. At this scale the model represents probably a design for a class of third rates measuring 160 feet along the gun deck by 44 feet in the beam and a tonnage of 1375 (builders old measurement).

A noticeable feature is the long lateen yard on the mizzenmast where only the after end was used, as the forward portion would soon be cut off and jaws fitted to form a gaff. It is very unusual to find a model built in the Navy Board style with this date as in this period they were typically fully planked along the hull, as can be seen on models in the Georgian style.
