Wandsworth (1950); Cargo vessel; Collier

Scale: 1:96. Builder' full hull model of the 'Wandsworth' (1950), a South Eastern Gas Board collier, complete with original a wooden and glass display case. Model is decked, equipped and rigged with the hull inscribed with name ‘Wandsworth’ on port and starboard bows, ‘Wandsworth South Eastern Gas Board’ on port and starboard amidships, and ‘Wandsworth London’on stern. Plaques inscribed ‘M.V. "Wandsworth" Built for South Eastern Gas Board London by the Burntisland Shipping Co. Ltd. Burntisland. Scotland.’ and ‘Model by I.R. Amis Limited London’.

These vessels were designed to go under the Thames bridges and were known as ‘flatties’ or ‘flatirons’ and used for supplying the various power station on the river with coal. The ‘Wandsworth’ was eventually sold to Italian buyers and renamed ‘Pietro Rembardo’ and was subsequently sunk in collision with an unknown vessel off of Cape St. Vincent, Spain.
