Royal/ceremonial vessel; Small craft; Shallop
Scale: 1:16. A contemporary full hull model of a shallop circa 1691, built plank on frame in the Navy Board style. It has been built from an unidentified English fruitwood and sealed with a layer of varnish with the ornate decoration highlighted with gold leaf. The model shows two strakes of the overlapping or clinker planking. The lower strakes have been omitted in order to show the hull section.
