Recreation vessel; Yacht
Scale 1:24. A contemporary full hull model of a yacht built plank on frame in the Navy Board style.. It has been constructed from the traditional English fruit woods such as apple, pear and also box. Because of the amount of both painted and carved decoration, it is thought to represent a privately owned yacht as opposed to a small warship. The presence of only two sets of channels would suggest that the vessel was rigged as a two-masted snow. At the above scale, the length of the upper deck was 56 feet by 16 feet in the beam, with an approximate tonnage of 60 burden. It was lightly armed with ten eight pounder guns on both the upper and quarter decks. Of special interest is the wealth of carved decoration especially the belfry, quarterdeck rail and the figurehead.
