Defence (1725); Warship; Third rate; 70 guns
Scale: 1:48. A block design model of the ‘Defence’ (1725), a 70-gun, two-decker ship of the line. The name ‘Defence’ is marked on the starboard broadside and twice on deck. The dimensions are those of a 70-gun ship on the Establishment of 1719. The name ‘Defence’ is suspect, however, since there was no ship of this size so called, although it is inscribed on the model in three places, below the water and also just legible on the deck.
