Falmouth; Warship; Fourth rate; 50 guns
Scale: 1:48. A block design model of the ‘Falmouth’ (1729), a 50-gun, small two-decker. The name ‘Falmouth’ appears on the stern.
This class of ship was 134 feet long, 26 feet broad, weighed 755 tons burden, and had a full complement of 300 men. They carried twenty-two 18-pound guns on their gun decks, twenty-two 9-pounders on their upper decks, four 6-pounders on their quarterdecks and two 6-pounders on their forecastles.
The ‘Falmouth’ was launched at Woolwich in 1729. It served first under Byng in the Mediterranean between 1731 and 1735. It spent four years in Jamaica after 1738, before going to the East Indies. It returned to Jamaica in 1743 and remained in service there until 1746. On its return to Woolwich it was broken up in 1747.
