Warship; Third rate; 60 guns
Scale: 1:48. A Georgian full hull model of a 60-gun, two-decker ship of the line (circa 1735). The model is decked, equipped and rigged. The rigging is believed to be contemporary, with a small portion replaced in 1935. The model carries the Admiralty flag at the mainmast head, and the Red Ensign aft.
The model represents the 1733 Establishment 60-gun ships, which were both larger (at 144 feet by 40 feet) and heavier (at 1060 tons burden) than the ‘60s’ of the 1719 Establishment. The gun arrangement remained at twenty-four 24-pound guns on the gun deck, twenty-six 9-pounders on the upper deck, eight 6-pounders on the quarterdeck and two 6-pounders on the forecastle. Four hundred men would have served on a ship of this type.
